Meeting Speakers:

Topic: Hands-on Measurement Uncertainty
Speaker: Dilip Shah, E = mc3 Solutions

Join us for a hands-on measurement uncertainty budget development process where we will conduct an interactive workshop during this NCSLI section meeting. The learning objectives for this half day workshop are:

  • Why is Measurement Uncertainty required?
  • What uncertainty contributors should be considered?
  • How do we estimate the Measurement Uncertainty budget?

After we have developed the measurement uncertainty budget for our generic parameter, we will look at how we can apply it to a real-world application and what are consequences of not a having an estimation of measurement uncertainty.

Topic: Managing Risk
Dilip Shah, E = mc3 Solutions

The newly published ISO/IEC 17025 standard requires the calibration and testing laboratories to evaluate and incorporate risk-based thinking. We are going to take the concepts learned in the first Measurement Uncertainty workshop and apply them to our risk-based thinking approach to make decisions. We will focus on the ISO/IEC 17025 Clauses 7.8.4, 7.8.5 and 7.8.6 and apply this risk based thinking. Please come prepared to participate as we will discuss various scenarios to better understand risk-based thinking.

Learning Objectives:

  • What is risk?
  • Why do the laboratories have to incorporate risk?
  • How can we incorporate risk-based thinking to have better outcomes?

Participants of the workshop will develop a clear understanding of the Measurement Uncertainty development process and applying the measurement uncertainty in the risk-based thinking to make better conformance decisions.
