Speaker: Michelle Foncannon
Title: Reflections from a Metrology Intern: the transformation from a student to a professional in a technical career
Topic Group: Student & Educator Perspectives
E-mail: michelle.foncannon@nist.gov
Co-Authors:
Abstract: Michelle Foncannon, a 2007 college graduate, will discuss her experiences as a student intern at the National Institute of Standards and Technology and her conversion to permanent staff. She will compare and contrast the differences between life as a college student and her life as an employee and new-found adult, highlighting the adjustments and “culture shocks” she experienced. Recent or upcoming graduates will find this helpful as they attempt to make the same transitions. This presentation will also help employers understand college graduates and the transformations they must undergo as they adjust to life outside the dorm-room and inside the boardroom.
