Abstract:
|
The absence of metrology programs at most Canadian universities and colleges means that the majority of metrologists are trained 'on the job'. This is particularly true for small and medium size enterprises where investment in metrological specialization is made even more difficult because of inefficiencies of scale. NRC-INMS responds to the challenge to provide education-based services directly to industry, stakeholder associations and other government departments by organizing and delivering external conferences and seminars. The Calibration Laboratory Assessment Service (CLAS) currently runs a highly successful and recognized course on measurement uncertainty. This course has been offered as part of the NCSLI tutorial program since 2002. The CLAS educational activities are currently expanding to satisfy industry needs. CLAS will be providing training on accreditation, traceability and specific measurement and calibration capabilities. As an integral part of INMS, CLAS is uniquely positioned to develop educational materials and courses with a sound metrological component: all Technical Advisors have measurement science backgrounds, technical expertise and extensive knowledge in quality assessments; and, have ready access to the INMS experts in the Metrology Directorate. This talk will outline how NRC-INMS approaches and delivers knowledge transfer to the metrology community.
