J.D. Simmons Memorial Scholarship

Committee Charter
This Scholarship is a Memorial to Dr. Joe D. Simmons. Dr Simmons was the Chief of the NIST Calibration Program, NIST Liaison to the NCSL International, recipient of the NCSL International William A. Wildhack Award and the Measurement Science Conference’s Andrew J. Woodington Award, Chair of the Measurement Quality Division of the American Society of Quality, and founding Chair of the Measurement Quality Conference, promoted institutional support for Metrology as the cornerstone of quality.

NCSLI was one of the founding sponsors of this scholarship and took over the legal responsibilities for the effort in 2010.  The scholarship continues to be co-sponsored by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) Measurement Quality Division.  NCSL Members are invited and encouraged to actively participate in the Committees that direct this Scholarship.

2013 - 2014 Goals
  1. Implement the conversion of the Joe D. Simmons Memorial Scholarship from a stand-alone organization to an NCSLI committee with formal liaisons with scholarship sponsors to ensure long-term support
  2. Award scholarships in 2013 and 2014
  3. Publish press releases about the awards
