  • NCSL becomes a dues-paying organization with Dues set at $50/year.
  • First edition (preliminary) of Directory of Standards Laboratories.
  • Joint Measurement Conference held at New York City (ISA’s 19th Annual Conference) Cooperating organizations were NCSL, PMA & AMS.
1965
  • NBS designated as sole sponsor.
1966
  • NBS provides Secretariat services.
  • 1st Annual Conference held at the new NBS – Gaithersburg, Maryland.
1967
  • Dr. Merrill Wallenstein replaces William Wildhack as Sponsor’s Delegate.
1968
  • Dr. Merrill Wallenstein passes away. Joe Cameron appointed as Sponsor’s Delegate.
  • Conference held at NBS – Boulder, Colorado.
1969
  • First Regional Meeting held in Columbus, Ohio.
1970
  • First Wildhack Award initiated as a Best-Paper Award at the NCSL Conference.
  • IRS grants nonprofit status to NCSL.
  • Office of Executive Vice President established.
  • NCSL is divided into 13 Regions.
1972
  • 1st Joint Measurement Conference held at NBS – Boulder, Colorado. Jointly sponsored by NBS, NCSL, PMA, ASQC, IEEE, ISA.
1973
  • Annual Conference held at NBS - Gaithersburg, Maryland.
1974
  • Membership opened to non-US organizations.
  • The 13 Regions are reduced to 8 Regions.
  • 2nd Joint Measurement Conference held at NBS – Boulder, Colorado. Same sponsors as 1972.
1975
  • First non-US citizen on Board of Directors is Graham Cameron, Canadian Dept. of National Defense.
  • First management meeting between NCSL and NBS.
1976
  • Wildhack Award changed to recognize an individual or group's contribution to Metrology.
  • NCSL implements first 5-year Long-Range Plan.
  • NCSL celebrates its 15th Anniversary.
  • Fifteenth anniversary Newsletter published. 
  • Bascom Birmingham succeeds Joe Cameron as NBS Sponsor’s Delegate.
